Times Have Changed

During the 19th century women were treated differently. Women were the people that did everything around the house and had less rights as men. Women had to follow lots of laws which made it hard for them to be their own person. They were treated as if nobody cared about them. Their husbands could beat them if they didn't think she was doing a good enough job around the house.

During the mid-19th century society reacted to women's demands for equality by writing a declaration. The decalaration states That all men and women are equal and should be treated the same. Although some people were all for equality others were not. The "Onieda Whig" talks about how if women had the same rights as men and were treated the same "who would cook the dinner?" This is a negative thought some thought about when the declaration was announced.

This still is going on today although you may not notice it as easily. In class we watched a commercial for Pantene and it showed the differences between a man and a women today. One example that they used that I found to be 100% true today is in politics or when someone is giving a speech a men tends to come off persuasive and women tend to come off pushy. Another example from the commercial that I found to be very true was when the dad was up late working and they labeled him as dedicated but when they showed the mom doing the same thing she was considered selfish. I think people still view women and men as different because by tradition. From a long time ago women were always the ones to stay him with the kids and take care of them while the man went to work. Times have changed and the 21st century should not still be thinking this.
